Mobile telecare project (TAM)

The Mobile Telecare Project (TAM) launched by the Vodafone Spain Foundation and the Spanish Red Cross, through the TECSOS Foundation, is already a healthcare reality.

This modality of telecare allows the person to have a permanent connection with the Red Cross Alarm Service Centers; coverage in any location with access to mobile telephony; be located by GPS system and by the Vodafone network; immediate support through mobile telephony; mobilization of the user's own resources (family, neighbors, etc.) and the necessary resources that exist in the locality.

Today the TAM is providing help to the group of women victims of domestic violence, based on the official contest called by the Administration and with the cooperation of the FEMP (Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces), the Red Cross was co-awarded to provide this service.

Before putting this project into operation, the TECSOS Foundation carried out a pilot phase that consisted of:

  • – A duration of 7 months (January – June 2004).
  • – 2 call centers: Madrid and Valladolid.
  • – 9 participating provinces: Valladolid, Alicante, Huesca, Toledo, Seville, Barcelona, ​​Madrid, the Balearic Islands and Granada.
  • – Specific terminals: Benefon (Track Pro and Seraph), Gap (Hiper S) and Nokia (3510i).
  • – Location by GPS and by the Vodafone network (enhanced Cell Id).
  • – IP messaging.

At the same time, care protocols, training of center and home staff, user information, central care equipment, definition of optimal technological solutions were defined; In addition to having acquired valuable experiences for future phases of the project, such as the identification of real technological and social needs, experience in the provision of social and health services.
